Later this year, Elizabeth Begbie will finally have a place where she can remember the child she lost 30 years ago. Her baby was stillborn at 20 weeks – and whisked away by medical staff who didn’t even tell the devastated mum if her child was a boy or girl. Elizabeth wasn’t told what happened to her child’s body. She only recently discovered her firstborn was a daughter and that her remains were simply put into a hospital incinerator.
Later this year, a memorial will be unveiled in Edinburgh for parents of hundreds of babies whose remains were disposed of by Mortonhall Crematorium without their knowledge. Continue reading
