Sands are aiming to provide bereavement care training to every first and third year student midwife in Scotland by September 2016 in order to improve care provided to parents after the death of a baby.
So far we’ve trained more than 100 first year students and 43 third years and will be training many more in the coming months.
The project, funded by the Scottish Government and Sands Scottish Network, is being rolled out at Edinburgh Napier University, the University of the West of Scotland and Robert Gordon University.
Sands Bereavement Care Training is designed to enable participants to better consider feelings associated with the death of a baby. The training helps students to explore the importance of supportive listening and communications skills, helping them to provide bereaved parents with empathetic, supportive care.
